ABOUT
Celebrating and honouring Mandela Day is always a highlight in the life of our church! And this Mandela Day will be bigger and better as we celebrate with a Compassion Week. Compassion Week will kick off on the 11th of July with the Compassion Drive Through, and will end the following Saturday with the Compassion Drop Off on Mandela Day, the 18th of July. And all throughout the week we’ll get the opportunity to build a box, enter the race and save a life.
[Compassion Drive Through]
On Saturday the 11th of July at both campuses we’ll have a Compassion Drive Through, where we’ll be doing three great things:
Firstly, we’ll have a moment where we can connect with each other again over free cups of hot chocolate, coffee and cappuccinos that will be made as you drive through the church campus;
Secondly, our Kidzone team will be on campus and will giveaway awesome party packs to our incredible kids who they’ve missed so much;
And thirdly, while we’re driving through, we can pick up a box that we can build up during the week with groceries and toiletries for the less fortunate in our community. The Compassion Drive Through will take place from 9am to 1pm at both Thrive Boksburg and Thrive Edenvale.
[Compassion Week]
This will be followed by a week filled with us shining our light of compassion as the church! Throughout the entire compassion week, you and your family can be involved in these simple ways:
Firstly, you can build a box – this is done by taking the box you collected and building it up with groceries and toiletries. Each box will be distributed to the families in our church who are battling and also to the organizations that SHINE have been helping over the last few months.
Secondly, you can enter the race – this is done by entering and registering our virtual Compassion race through our church app and website. Whether you want to run, walk, hike or swim this virtual race you can find all the details to it on our app and website. All proceeds will go to buying blankets for those who desperately need to keep warm this winter. [Adult registration fee – R30; Children registration fee – R20]
Lastly, you can save a life – this is done by coming through to either campus on Mandela Day and donating blood at our annual blood drive. This is always a significant and urgent need in our country so your donation would be immense. Proper social distancing and sanitising measures will taken throughout the entire day [Blood drive will be open and available throughout the day at both campuses]
[Compassion Drop Off]
All of this will come to a grand finale at the Compassion Drop Off on the following Saturday, Mandela Day. At the drop off we’ll be dropping off the boxes we’ve built up, we’ll take the time to donate blood and save a life, and we’ll be thanking God for the impact we get to make in our community!
So, do not let this Mandela Day pass you by, instead let us stand together as a church and let us make it a week of compassion. A week where we build a box, enter the race, and save a life!
