ABOUT

How it works:

I am raffling a wood-fired vase, and a wood-fired jar, you can buy a ticket for either or both. There are a maximum of 40 tickets available for each. Check out this Album on my Facebook page for pics: https://www.facebook.com/pg/elysiummcgregor/photos/?tab=album&album_id=3047093145397819

I will be donating 30% of the proceeds to the McGregor Food Bank, the food bank is run by the McGregor Community Services Projects (registered NPO number is 203910) specifically to help provide food insecure community members with food during this particularly scary and unsure time. This is their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/McGregor-Community-Services-Projects-128197508022633/

Each ticket you buy is an entry into the raffle to win the pot of your choice - specified when you buy your ticket.

A bit about whats up for grabs:

The Vase is 33 cm tall x 21 cm wide. It was fired in an Anagama kiln for about 3 days, this means the kiln was continuously stoked with wood every few minutes for 3 days. This pot was not glazed on the outside aside from the neck which has a Celadon glaze on it, it was fired to around 1300 degrees. Its shine comes from natural wood ash which has flown through the kiln during the firing to land on the pots and melt at the extreme high temperature to form a glaze, making the pot shiny. In the case of this firing, it did not get to full temperature after 3 days of firing so this pot was re-fired in an electric kiln to melt all the ash which had landed on it. Check out this link for more info https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anagama_kiln

The Jar is 29 cm tall x 18 cm wide. It won second prize in the 2020 Ceramics SA Western Cape Regional Exhibition, see here for more: https://www.ceramics-sa-cape.co.za/ It was fired in a wood kiln for about 30 hours, this means the kiln was continuously stoked with wood every few minutes for 30 hours. It was fired to around 1300 degrees C. It was glazed with Shino, Chun and Ash glazes.
