ABOUT

College House, the boarding establishment of Durban Girls’ College, has been transformed under the leadership of Lesley Small (Rowan 1971) who took on the roles of Head of Boarding and school catering in 2014.

Lesley has style, taste, energy and enthusiasm and she uses her considerable flair for cooking, gardening and, most importantly, warmth and caring, with just the right quantity of firmness with the girls under her care, and a large measure of experience from her years at Umngazi River Bungalows to produce the most palatable boarding imaginable.   

Publication of A Small Wonder – a celebration of food with love – is an opportunity to open the College House Kitchen to all those who share in the tasty, easy, quick dishes featured on these pages, all of which come from Les’s extensive collection of recipes – some handed down from her mother, Catherine Rowan, who taught domestic science to generations of College girls.
