Opera Soloist Auditions

ABOUT

The internationally acclaimed South African operatic tenor, Stéfan Louw, is looking for opera singers to add to his database for upcoming concerts and productions.

He is specifically looking for the following voices:

• Coloratura
• Soubrette
• Dramatic soprano
• Mezzo-soprano
• Leggiero tenor
• Dramatic baritone
• Buffo bass
• Heavy bass

Note that there is NO auditions for baritone, bass-baritone, or lyric, spinto, and dramatic tenors.

Audition criteria

Here is an example of how to use the list of audition arias. If you are a coloratura, you can only choose three (3) arias from the list under coloratura. You CANNOT choose one coloratura, one soubrette, and one lyric soprano aria. 

You must have all three arias memorised for the audition. On the day of the auditions, you will sing two (2) arias - Stefan will choose the first one and you can then sing your choice of one of the remaining arias that you prepared.

When you arrive at the audition venue, you must have two (2) clearly printed copies of EACH of your chosen arias' sheet music. One for the pianist, and one for Stéfan.

There is a pianist at the audition venue for a fee of R155. If you bring your own pianist there is no audition fee.
