Changing classrooms into science labs

Schools in rural and township areas lack the necessary infrastructure to adequately teach science; learners in such schools only focus on theory whilst being deprived of the opportunity to experience the practical side of science. Science practical's offer greater depth and understanding of science principles. The lack of laboratories therefore places learners from disadvantaged backgrounds at a greater disbenefit as they are not afforded the same level of learning.

Schools in rural and township areas lack the necessary infrastructure to adequately teach science; these learners only focus on the theory of science while being deprived of the opportunity to experience the practical side of science. Resources such as trained teachers to conduct these practical's have also been of growing concern. 

The KZN Science Centre is a non-profit organization which focuses on creating science awareness by bringing science labs into classrooms. It's involved in offering curriculum-based science practical's for learners which fall in grade categories 4-12 whilst offering other services including teacher's training on how to conduct science practical's. 

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to be a problem globally. During this difficult time, the science centre has been unable to adequately visit and conduct these much needed science practical's to disadvantaged schools. The centre has aimed, therefore, to reach a target of approximately 12,000 learners by the end of the academic school year to respond to the limitations faced. Thus affording students the opportunity to engage in these curriculum based activities giving them a better understanding of the fundamental principles of science. 

You can become apart of this major effort of salvaging what was lost by this pandemic. You can help at this cause and improve the education of at least one learner in South Africa by supporting this project and make a difference today. Just R45 can help one student by providing them with the relevant materials. We need to provide this opportunity to as many disadvantage students possible.
