ABOUT

The Brother Moves On is releasing a collaborative project in the form of an album with Matsuli Music entitled "Tolika Mtoliki" on the 25th of October 2021. To celebrate and share this release the band is embarking on a tour of kindred spaces in and around Johannesburg, Pretoria, the East Rand and Cape Town. His & Hers Jam are our day ones in this live music mission and it bring us great joy to return to Soweto to celebrate our maturity as a live music act.

About Tolika Mtoliki

The songs on the forthcoming album Tolika Mtoliki are critical shards of a fractured sonic, social and political inheritance. They are the sound-work of the elders – Mongezi Feza, Johnny Dyani, the Malopoets, Batsumi, and Philip Tabane, and they come with a blessing from Moses Taiwa Molelekwa. Called into the circle for this session, they speak old wisdom in new voices, and what they have to give is not measured in distance from a so-called original version. These songs are not reducible to reference recordings, nor to staff notation. They are spirits of sound, summoned from the past for the sake of the present, taking up old roles as heralds of a mended future.

Once again, as before, they announce a work of healing.

About His and Hers Jams

His and Hers is a Soweto based collective which has been pivotal in the Johannesburgs live music scene in relation to Soweto. The collective are central in ensuring that the big acts gracing alternative stages play a backyard event for the Sowetan tribe that is part and parcel of this music revolution. Expect a street bash event of epic proportions in one of Johannesburg and South Africa's iconic townships.
