“Tolika Mtoliki” is a time portal on vinyl recorded by The Brother Moves On and due for release on Matsuli Music on the 1st November 2021. The album is an interpretation of South African songs recorded between 1963 and 1985. We cast your ear back to music that was missed and not given the proper attention by the youth.
The Tolika Mtoliki 2021 tour is a precursor to the release. Through the tour we seek to connect audiences across the country, in sometimes ignored places, to this pivotal South African music tradition. As The Brother Moves On we trace our sound back to its origins and with a bigger band, linked to our punk sensibilities and the not so distant jazz tradition.
Matsuli Music is an independent record label run by Matt Temple in London and Chris Albertyn in Durban. The re-issue label is passionate about finding and re-issuing great historical South African musical moments on vinyl. This recording by The Brother Moves On is Matsuli Music's first original recording of a contemporary band, connecting different generations of South African music audiences through an interpretation of music from our collective past.
