Laurie Levine biog

SAMA nominated singer-songwriter Laurie Levine is best known for her blend of Americana and folk

music. The release of her last solo record, ‘Canyons’, bought with it a whole new sound and

outlook. She moved away from the acoustic terrain of country and folk into a lush world of electric

guitars, beats, synths and spacious reverbs. Dark at times, introspective and pierced with a sublime

beauty, the songs reverberate and shimmer with otherworldly elegance and intelligence. Through

the years, she has explored different soundscapes and moods, but through it all, what has remained

constant is the rich lyricism that is bought home by the intimacy and emotionality of her vocal

delivery. Laurie is in the process of releasing her latest body of work, and EP entitled ‘Dunes’.

Since moving to Cape Town, Laurie has started collaborating with singer-songwriter Jak Tomas.

It is a rare and special thing to witness two artists with distinct styles and voices on the same stage,

imbuing songs with new life. Jak Tomas will be joining Laurie for her set, enriching and expanding

her songs, both old and new with atmospheric textures. The result is a beautiful balance of

delicacy and power.

Jak Tomas biog

Jak Tomas - the artist formerly known as Joshua Kenneth Grierson, is a self-taught multi-genre

singer, songwriter and producer born, raised and based in Cape Town, South Africa.

Since forming his first band in 1997, Tomas has been a part of various acts covering a number of

genres and instruments, with whom he has toured nationally and internationally. The melodic

instincts that have been the bedrock of Tomas’s musical output for 15 years have filtered into all

his projects and are still firmly present, especially in his solo material. Tomas has always ignited his

world-class, country-inflected folk-rock songs with an unstinting passion that’s all-consuming.

Known for his explosive and emotionally-drenched live performances, Tomas entrances audiences

with his hypnotic songs and voice with its incredible range.

Tomas recorded his latest album at his home studio - Of Love & Anxiety, released mid 2020. Its

debut single 'I Was Just a Kid / With a Crush' was listed on iTunes' Best of The Week playlist.

story.
