ABOUT

Durban's streets will be filled by the smell of rebellion as Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR hits the Maris Stella School stage this coming March. Based on the beloved book Matilda and adapted from the award-winning full-length musical, this whimsical live production tells the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. In the words of our unlikely hero, Matilda Wormwood: "Nobody but me is gonna change my story".

Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence... and special powers! She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Her school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could just be what the students need to teach the grown-ups a lesson.

Let this 43-person cast take you on a journey with the revolting children of Crunchem Hall. Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, Matilda Jr. this joyous girl power romp will delight and inspire audiences and promises an evening of wholesome fun for the the whole family with its message of kindness, optimism and standing up for what it right.

This is a family-friendly production with fantastical elements, and we suggest age 6+, but younger guests are welcome. The show is approximately 100 minutes long (including the interval), quite loud at times and can be a bit scary in parts. Parental guidance is advised for younger guests as this musical does address themes of neglect and bullying.
