Charl du Plessis In Recital

Wed Jun 14, 18:00 - Wed Jun 14, 20:00

Piesang Valley Community Hall

ABOUT

In 2009 Charl du Plessis recorded a CD entitled Piano Man and the musical producer of this recording was the pianist Anneke Lamont. Her kind guidance and musical mastermind launched a new direction in Du Plessis’ career, and they remained friends for many years. To honour Anneke Lamont and her legacy, this recital is dedicated to her memory. The programme will include works by Bach, Rachmaninov, Chopin as well as some improvisations on suggestions from the audience.

Charl du Plessis rose to fame when he was the youngest pianist in Africa to be named a Steinway Artist in 2010. He has since embarked on an international career working simultaneously as classical and jazz pianist. Charl became the first pianist ever to perform on top of Table Mountain in Cape Town and was invited to perform at the opening of Steinway Hall, Beijing. He has won two SAMAs, a Ghoema and Fiësta. Since establishing the Charl du Plessis Trio in 2006, Charl has alerted audiences to the complexities and capabilities of combining jazz and classic music. The creative possibilities of crossover music have offered him the means to produce a wide range of music not confined by any style or genre.
