AKiMBO
Akimbo is a band hailing from Stellenbosch, who embellish their music with classical guitar, steel string guitar, ukelele, keyboard, percussion and beautiful vocal harmonies. The duo consists of Andi, who does most of the lead vocals whilst also switching between steel string guitar, ukulele, keyboard, some basic percussive instruments and dancing. With her background in stage performance, she certainly knows how to captivate an audience.
Tayne is the other half of the duo and uses his classical guitar to add finger picking, riffs and rhythm guitar to the mix. He also provides backing vocals and adds a beat using his homemade foot operated percussion set up.
Akimbo have played together for nearly five years at a diverse array of venues and events - restaurants, cocktail bars, wine estates, breweries, wedding venues, live music venues and corporate functions. AKiMBO's debut EP album, "undoing", was released on all streaming platforms in March 2022.
HUGO VELDSMAN TRIO
Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Hugo Veldsman is fast becoming a sensation in the local indie folk rock scene after his debut studio album, The Calm Before. His iconic use of roots inspired lapsteel guitar and his classical training from the Stellenbosch Conservatory, morphs into his intimate "alternative folk" style of song writing.
Hugo and his band travel and tour throughout South Africa, playing pubs, clubs, cafes, theaters and festivals alike (notably Up the Creek, Zeegunst and STRAB), also having opened to the likes of Dan Patlansky and Prime Circle. In parallel to his solo career, Hugo also composes music to film and other media, and performs alongside other acts, such as the dark folk/country band Blackwood Wendy.
Hugo is accompanied by the vastly experienced Gustav Franzen and Johan Pretorius on bass guitar and drums respectively.
These two groups will be joining forces to produce a show of epic proportions, each of them showcasing their song writing skills, instrumental dexterity and vocal abilities. Throughout the performance, they will collaborate on each other's music and then come together for a grande finale with some long loved classic hits.
