Johannesburg Bach Choir 60th Celebration Winter Concert

Sun Jun 9, 15:00 - Sun Jun 9, 16:00

St Columba's Presbyterian Church

ABOUT

On 1 September 1964, the Johannesburg Bach Choir had its first concert. Sixty years later, we have gone from strength to strength, and are celebrating this with a series of festive concerts under the baton of the multi-talented Tim Roberts.

You are invited to join us for a fabulous afternoon of choir music, beautifully accompanied by organist Ruth Coggin

Charles Gounod’s Messe Breve Nr.7 in C  has delighted audiences all over the world since 1877, and its lyrical melodies are guaranteed to mesmerise. This will be followed by Joseph Haydn’s Missa Brevis Sancti Joannis De Deo (Kleine Orgelmesse) in B flat, composed about 100 years earlier. The Gloria and Credo sections are particularly interesting because the different voice parts sing different parts of the text simultaneously, resulting in the brevity of the mass.

We are also very excited to announce that we’ll be concluding our programme with a traditional mass in Sotho and isiXhosa.

Este Meerkotter will be our soloist for this concert. She is a very talented and sought-after soprano – classically trained, but she performs many different musical styles. Her beautiful voice has impressed our audiences in the past and will certainly do so again.

You are cordially invited to join us for complimentary refreshments after the concert.
