ABOUT
Siyabonga Maqungo has had a stellar career since leaving Potchefstroom University.
After a period of study in Cologne, he moved quickly via the Opera Houses in Meiningen and Chemnitz to a choice position in the Stadtsoper in Berlin where he was chosen by Daniel Barenboim to join the team of soloists at this major Opera House.
He has worked with leading conductors in Germany, the UK, Austria, Italy, South Korea, China, and the USA . He has had several repeat calls from Sir Antonio Pappano, Daniel Barenboim, Christian Thielemann,Rene Jacobs,Helmut Rilling , Marc Minkovsky and Zubin Mehta.
He is joined on this occasion by Florian Uhlig, himself a distinguished concert pianist and accompanist. He is professor of Piano Studies at Lubeck Hochschule.
These two very special musicians were brought together by the Johannesburg International Mozart Festival, where their relationship began.
