"Festive Spirit": A Musical Extravaganza Showcasing the Brilliance of South African and French Composers.


The School of Music at North-West University, Potchefstroom, proudly presents "Festive Spirit," an ensemble concert featuring a captivating blend of talent, culture, and musical mastery. This extraordinary performance will showcase a diverse array of instruments and compositions that promise to enchant the audience.


Program Highlights: The concert will feature an eclectic repertoire, highlighting the works of two distinguished South African composers, Hendrik Hofmeyr and James Rich, as well as an enchanting and seldom-heard composition of renowned French composer Francis Poulenc. Hofmeyr's composition, "Ludzimu," meaning 'spirit,' promises a soul-stirring experience, while Rich's "Cafe Riche" and Poulenc's "L'Invitation au Chateau" will transport the audience to different realms of musical brilliance.


About the Composers: Hendrik Hofmeyr: A celebrated South African composer known for his evocative and culturally rich compositions. James Rich: An acclaimed composer whose works resonate with the vibrant energy of contemporary South Africa. Francis Poulenc: A legendary French composer whose compositions are known for their lyrical beauty and emotional depth.


About the Performers: The concert will feature exceptional performances by Liesl van der Merwe on the bassoon, Piet Koornhof on the violin, Tinus Botha on the piano, Brian Nelson on the clarinet, and Marike Prins on the double bass. Their collective expertise and passion for music promise to create an unforgettable evening for the audience.
