The Tweni2s is a community based specialty surf and music event that has become commonly known as ‘ the party of the year' on the South coast…

Since it’s conception by South coast surfers Derek Horlock and Byran Wigmore in 2018, the event has grown into both a Summer and Winter edition. In December 2023 we had the inaugural Retro 5000 vintage surfboard rally which again was a great success.

This year we wait patiently for the red hot pokers on the aloes to bloom, the sea to clean up, and the offshore winds to blow- May 11th 2024 make sure you save the date! Last year the title was taken by Shane Sykes and Chad du Toit over 2022 winners Brandon Jackson and Josh Redman. 2021 the waves were absolutely cranking when Frank Olberholzer and Brandon Jackson were unstoppable. 2018 Beyrick de Vries and Chad du Toit of Durban took it again. The last time we had an ‘all local final’ was the first event in 2017 when Nik Njapha and Byran Wigmore beat Tweni locals Andrew Lange and Calvin Moore.

Our new scoring and two-tiered format now allows for two finals and more winners alongside the Darryl Osborne Wave of the day and the Super surfer of the event. The prize purse this year sits at a hefty 60 thousand rand!

But more about the format: since it’s inception the idea of two surfers set against each other with no priority nor interference rules has made for some fiercely entertaining competition…

This year to allow for more winners(and hopefully a local surfer or two!) 16 teams of 2 surfers will battle it out in the opening round with each surfers highest scores being doubled alongside their second score for a collected score out of 30 combined team score out of 60. Top 8 scoring teams go into the premier division bottom 8 into the plate division. 

Over the years Tweni2s has supported various junior athletes and organizations like Tidy Towns and Ugu surfing, Clay Turrel of Southport is the current South African junior champ and has been selected to surf in the S.A junior team trials this month. 

Local musicians and bands like Tyran Roy and Chewing The Hornet have become mainstay attractions every year.

Thanks and praises most especially to Pete Horlock, his extended family, The Round Table, and the greater South coast surfing community for all the help so far. The Tweni2s has become a gathering for all the South coast ‘old boys and girls’ and this year promises to be no different! Expect great surfing, an even better lineup of music then last year, food and beverages from 8am until late.

We will, as we have in the past be running a free surf clinic for any aspiring groms and gromettes as well as beach soccer. Tickets available online for R100 which gets you in the raffle for the mystery prize to be announced soon…
