Salon Kewpie: The Legacy Ball forms an integral aspect of the memory and public performance methodologies that underpin The Legacy Project's ethos. The Ball acts as a crucial culmination to the workshop series where programme participants walk in Kewpie’s onstage footsteps alongside our local legends and stars! The evening brings the youth together with gay, queer, and trans elders; members of the District Six community of remembrance with iconic members of the local Ballroom and Drag communities. Hosted by international house mother, Cheshire Vineyard, the event serves to present and connect the spirit of ballroom with the themes revealed in a rich historical photographic collection that captures the life of a queer icon from the Apartheid era, who has come to be known as the Daughter of District Six.

Act 1

• The Golden Gays and Girls, are enjoying a night out on the town. Whether going to the bioscope or attending a fabulous soiree. The Gays and Girls of District Six knew, and still know, how to serve evening attire. To our esteemed elders, we invite to Bring it to the runway in your best evening attire, serving the kids a masterclass in elegance, style and taste.

• The category is Realness ladies and gentlemen. Oh, "to be real!" For anyone familiar with the archive, you will have come across the iconic Movie Snaps images. Bring it to the runway inspired by one of Kewpie's Iconic Movie Snaps photos, taken on bussling darling street. Whether masc or femme, a gentleman or a gentlelady. We want to see you pump this runway as if you're in the hussle and bustle of the inner city, in your finest pant suit. Can you pump these streets, unfazed by, yet always ready for the "paparazzi" because what, you are about your business. Don't forget, to get your tens, you need to be unclockable! Call them sir or ma'am.Thank you very much!

• Kewpie was a master of and insisted on her own celebrity. As did many of her sisters. It was common practice amongst the Dolls of District Six vie for right to lay claim to the name of a Hollywood starlet or other prominent celebrity. Kewpie came to be known as Miss Capucine. Now is your chance to earn your title, as you walk the proverbial red carpet of our runway. It's giving main character, its giving old Hollywood, its giving legend, icon, superstar! Will you be crowned best dressed, and earn your star on the Ballroom Walk of Fame?

Act 2

• Drags Performance, a night at the Cabaret. Moffie shows were a highlight of the event calendar in District Six. "Moffie shows" as they were called, were a staple and highlight of District Six's events calendar. So come ready to give us a show and lip-sync for the Legacy darling!

• Vogue Performance, Kewpie, a Trancestor and Pioneering Femme Queen was always a blonde. Bring it to the runway as a blonde bombshell, because blondes have more fun. I WANNA SEE YOU VOGUE THE HOUSE DOWN LIKE A FEMME QUEEN BITCH!

• Graduates to the runway, please! This year, we want to see our debutantes Bring it to the Runway in a Grand March inspired by one of the many "chosen family" scenes in the Kewpie Collection. Is it giving "We are family?"
