Ecotherapy and mindfulness

Sun May 5, 08:30 - Sun May 5, 11:00

Oranjezicht City Farm

ABOUT

A small patch of dirt can be a healer, a teacher and a friend. This workshop offers the chance to experience a basketful of tools used in the field of ecotherapy.

Using the techniques of wandering, the sit spot, inner landscape mapping, symbolism and storytelling in council, facilitated by ecotherapy practitioner Nicola Lazenby, we will explore how a relationship with a garden at Oranjezicht City Farm can help us explore a relationship with ourselves.

Come and discover what might need to be weeded, composted, harvested or planted in your own life, how bee or fish or dead rat or worm might teach you something you have forgotten about what it means to be alive, and how we might answer the deep longing for a life of connection and belonging to the natural world.

Suitable for ages 18 and up.

Please bring weather appropriate wear (hat or raincoat), sensible shoes, bottle of water, journal and pen.

Booking is essential as spots are limited.

From Nicola Lazenby, the Facilitator:

"I am passionate about helping people foster a relationship with the natural world, and in so doing, come to a more whole understanding of nature, and of themselves as nature. My love affair with the wild and ecotherapy began in 2018 when I spent four months solo hiking from Mexico to Canada. The experience of nature and of myself was profound, and it changed my life forever. Since then, I have rerouted my decade-long career as an academic and educator at high school and university level. I have eight years’ experience training and facilitating peer support circles with Women for Afrika, and I offer primary care psychosocial support to individuals and groups from all walks of life. I am qualified as a Registered Counsellor (PRC 0043133) with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)"
