ABOUT

Veterans for Wildlife would like to invite you to our third annual South African Golf Day. We would be delighted if you could join us on Friday 15 March 2019 at the Country Club Johannesburg (CCJ) Woodmead course.

In Africa every 8 hours one rhino is killed for its horn and every 15 minutes one elephant is killed for its tusks. The illegal trade in wildlife is now the fourth largest criminal enterprise following drug smuggling, counterfeiting, and human trafficking. The trade is 26 per cent higher than previously estimated, worth as much as USD $23 billion per year. Veterans for Wildlife are working to aid in the prevention of wildlife crime by empowering veterans to support, mentor, and train rangers and entities on the front line of wildlife crime prevention.

Rhinos and elephants are being killed faster than they are reproducing, meaning that if something is not done to stop wildlife crime, these species will be extinct in the next decade. Veterans for Wildlife needs your help to prevent this from happening.

Money raised from this event will be used to establish a Ranger Benevolent Fund, which will support training for the rangers looking after these animals as well as provide financial assistance to rangers and their families.

Join us for a memomrable day and evening and help us raise funds to assist in the prevention of wildlife crime whilst also empowering veterans!

A challenging parkland course, Woodmead is known for its established, tree-lined fairways. The estate’s dams and strategic mounding add to its scenic appeal, and the many fish and bird species on the course create the perfect balance between city and nature.

The greens on the Woodmead Golf Course are constructed to USGA specifications and are seeded with the hybrid L93 Bentgrass. Elsewhere, the course is planted with Kikuyu grass on the tees, fairways and semi-rough. The Sandwedge halfway house is widely considered to be one of the finest in the country and offers discerning golfers the perfect midway break.

The day will begin with light refreshments after which teams will tee-off in a shotgun start. There will be lunch on offer at the 9th and light dinner served on completion of the day's play. And, of course, there will be a number of great prizes on offer too!
