19 Italian Songs and Arias of the Seventeeth and Eighteenth Century

Sun Jul 7, 15:30 - Sun Jul 7, 17:30

Casa Richards

ABOUT

This will be a concert of songs and arias composed in the 17th and 18th century by early masters of opera who were members of the Florentine Camerata. This group came together to innovate the ‘musical theatre’ of their time. Their innovations are still used in the 21st Century.

These songs and arias capture the joys of new love and the pain when that love ends. Some of the songs mention names of the lovers. This heightens the intensity of the emotions in the music. The audience will be transported back in time and experience the full emotions of the songs, only to realise that they have also felt these emotions.

The songs will be sung by the gifted tenor, Sandile Mabaso. He will be accompanied by Jill Richards,South Africa’s only experimental concert piano diva.

The whole programme will be sung in Italian.
