Please join us for an exciting Stellenbosch Digital LaunchLab Talk with G-J van Rooyen the co-founder and CEO of Custos Media Technologies, a Stellenbosch-based startup that combines digital forensic watermarking with blockchain-based detection of media leaks. G-J will be speaking to us about 'Building a Blockchain Startup: The Custos Story.'

Prior to taking up the helm at Custos full time, G-J was Associate Professor in ICT at Stellenbosch University, where Custos' core technology was invented in 2013. G-J holds a PhD in Electronic Engineering (Digital Signal Processing) from the same institution. During his tenure at the University, G-J co-founded the MIH Media Lab in collaboration with media multinational Naspers, who funded research on the commercial application of emerging technologies in media. The Media Lab encouraged spinning out inventions into start-ups, and when the opportunity arose to follow a patent's commercialization, G-J chose to leave academia for business. He retains an active R&D interest in digital forensic watermarking and blockchain technology.
