ABOUT

The guided walkabouts and immersions are hosted in the Makers Valley and other areas in the city of Joburg for the youth, focus groups, families, tourists, school learners and special delegations. The walkabouts are guided by team members of MVC in collaboration with local makers, tourism agencies and organizations that promote tourism in Joburg. The walkabouts create a unique opportunity for participants to;

·      Meet and engage with the various makers who live and work in the Makers Valley and parts of Joburg

·      See the various ways of making, learning and co-creating such as urban farming, design, craft, performing arts and up-cycling taking place in the neighborhood

·      To experience and learn more about the rich history, heritage and agricultural opportunities in the area

·      Walk away from the experience with their own perception and understanding of the neighborhood

·      Access various maker-spaces where making and innovation happen daily

Participants have two (2) packages to choose from;

Guided Walkabout: Get to walk through the neighborhood, through selected maker-spaces and get to meet some of the makers in the Makers Valley. There are a range of makers from artisans, craftspeople; entrepreneurs, creatives’ and industry in the area, and a key opportunity to further enhance the creation of decent livelihoods through the collaboration with the various ‘makers’ initiatives

Facilitated Neighborhood Immersions: Choose from a variety of well-being activities hosted in selected maker-spaces in the Makers Valley. Activities are curated workshops and activations which are facilitated by skilled makers who live or work in the Makers Valley
